Topeka Massage Therapy

After six back surgeries and a total knee replacement, I participated in both Aqua Therapy and Land Physical Therapy at Rebound with great success. As an added component to my muscle strengthening, it was suggested that I have Massage Therapy sessions with John Henry Tardiff.

For the past six months, I have seen John Henry who has been able to align my body structure and strengthen muscle tissue around the areas of the surgery. I am stronger and able to walk without pain. John Henry has an amazing knowledge of the human body and the nerve and muscle connections. I am very grateful to him for the Massage Therapy treatments that have been of significant help to me in regaining mobility without pain.

"When I first started coming to see John Henry I was having severe pain in my shoulder and neck. I had limited mobility and didn't want to use it because it caused pain. After the first three massage treatments I was feeling better but not over the hump. I continued for about five more treatments and the mobility is back and the pain is gone. I couldn't be happier. I credit it to John Henry and his knowledge and expertise in the field!"

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?

Your massage therapist will require you to fill out a general health history sheet. Prior to your massage, the therapist will ask you some more specific questions to determine what areas need to be worked on, and if you have any specific conditions that need to be addressed. It is important to note that during the massage, your therapist may perform certain assessments or testing to see if you have any presenting conditions.

Do I have to be completely undressed?

You should undress only to the level you are comfortable. Most people typically get completely undressed for a full body massage. However, if leaving your underwear on during the session will make you more comfortable, that’s okay. The therapist will work around your remaining clothes. It is important for you to be fully relaxed, to get the optimal benefit from your session.

How often should I get a massage?

It varies depending on the person and their situation. For occasional relaxation, once per month is pretty standard. If you are looking to address a specific condition, it is recommended that you go more frequently at first, and then gradually taper off to a maintenance schedule as your condition resolves. Frequency of treatment should be discussed with the therapist after your initial massage session.

How can massage help me?

Massage therapy can be used to help people of all ages and conditions. Some specific problems massage therapy can be used to assist with during the recovery process:

  • Circulatory and Respiratory issues
  • Post-injury and surgical rehabilitation
  • Repetitive strain injury
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Inflammatory conditions such as Arthritis and Tendonitis
  • Back pain
  • Pregnancy discomfort
  • Muscle and other soft tissue conditions such as spasms, strains and sprains
