Uncover Long-Lasting Pain Relief With Dry Needling
Is pain preventing you from following through on your daily routine? Do you find yourself on the sidelines, watching as life goes by? If a painful condition has left you feeling frustrated, know that relief is possible with dry needling therapy.
Dry needling is a safe and effective method of treatment performed by a licensed physical therapist that works to reduce pain and muscle tension, while simultaneously improving mobility.
It has been proven to treat numerous musculoskeletal issues, including acute and chronic injuries, overuse injuries, neck pain, headaches, back pain, sciatica, muscle spasms, muscle strains, tendinitis, knee pain, hip pain, fibromyalgia, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, and more.
If you are dealing with one of these conditions and you’re looking for relief, or if you’d like to gain more information on how dry needling could benefit you, contact Rebound Physical Therapy today!
For National Physical Therapy Month in October, Rebound PT treated all staff to the best coffee around, Chaos Coffee!

What exactly is dry needling?
This treatment method is used by our licensed physical therapists as a way to relieve pain. When performing dry needling, our physical therapist will insert a sterile acupuncture needle through the skin, into the underlying tendons, ligaments, or muscles that have been affected, in order to relieve pain, decrease muscle tension, and improve mobility.
Muscles can develop knotted areas known as trigger points. When these trigger points are touched, they can be extremely painful. They are also frequently the source of referred pain (or pain that affects another part of the body). Clinicians insert thin, solid needles into trigger points in the skin. The needles are not used to inject medication, but rather to stimulate the tissue.
The way your body moves is affected by pain. Dry needling is thought to alter the way the brain and muscles communicate with one another, allowing the system to return to a more normal movement pattern.
While it is a common misconception, dry needling is not acupuncture. It is based on a modern scientific study of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems. While there are some similarities, dry needling is strictly based on Western medicine principles and research. It provides an environment that enhances the body’s ability to heal, ultimately reducing pain in the process.
Does dry needling hurt?
Most of our patients report feeling little to no discomfort when undergoing dry needling treatments. Our highly-trained physical therapists know how to make the process as painless as possible; however, some patients may still experience a “twitch response” with the insertion of the needle.
This is comparable to a quick muscle cramp or ache. The 24-48 hours following a dry needling treatment may also result in muscle soreness, which should go away on its own. Sore muscles can be treated at home by applying ice and/or heat packs and drinking plenty of fluids.

Sniff Out the Positive: Easy ways to practice gratitude and boost your mood
Hi friends, Oliver here! November is one of my favorite months. Not just because there are so many good smells outside (have you sniffed a pile of leaves lately?), but because it’s the perfect time to slow down and appreciate the little things. Practicing gratitude isn’t just for hoomans around the Thanksgiving table. It’s a simple habit that can make every day feel a little brighter.
When I want to sniff out the good stuff, I start by thinking about my favorite moments from the day. For example, that sunny patch on the floor where I like to nap, the crunchy sound of leaves during my walk, or the surprise treat I got for sitting like a good boy. If hoomans made their own little gratitude lists like that, I think their tails might wag a bit more, too.
Another way I practice gratitude is by going on “thankful sniff walks.” Instead of racing ahead, I slow down and take it all in. I notice the new smells, the squirrels chattering in the trees, and the way the breeze ruffles my fur. Hoomans can do this too—just look around, breathe deep, and find a few small things that make you smile. It’s amazing how much joy hides in the ordinary when you actually stop to sniff it out.
And of course, nothing beats showing a little love to others. I give extra tail wags, happy greetings, and a good nuzzle to let my favorite hoomans know they matter. You can do the same with kind words, a thank-you, or a simple smile. Gratitude spreads fast when you share it.
This season, try seeing the world the way I do. Notice the cozy spots, enjoy the walk instead of rushing through it, and let the people (and pups) in your life know they’re special. The more you sniff out the positive, the more it finds you right back.
Paws and positivity,
– Dogtor Oliver 🐾

“I hardly know where to begin. I came to Rebound about a year and a half ago with sciatica. We worked on that for a long time before either Madison or Brooke introduced me to dry needling. The improvement was almost instantaneous. Over the course of a couple of months of dry needling, the sciatica nearly disappeared—and when it flared up, it was tolerable. That was an enormous gain for me at the time.
Then, three months ago, I misstepped on stairs and broke my fibula near my ankle. I sprained the ankle pretty badly, too. I was in a boot for eight weeks, a brace for two, a cane for another two—and now I’m walking almost normally. My therapists were Madison, Brooke, Diane (a student), Elaine, Todd, Adrienne, Jonathan, Joe, and Ambika (I hope I’ve spelled the last two correctly). When I arrived with the boot, I was in a wheelchair. Brooke removed my boot and began by simply rubbing/massaging the foot. She was careful not to put any pressure on it or manipulate it. Pain was severe at that moment. With subsequent visits, the therapists got my foot and ankle moving more and more.
Here we are a full three months later, and I can balance on my left (broken) leg for ten seconds without holding on to anything. I can do leg days at the gym with moderate weight. I can walk around the grocery store or Lowe’s—wandering from one end to the other, as I’m prone to forget what’s where in both. And afterward, I can still walk without pain.
In short, with the broken leg, I’ve gone from a wheelchair to normal in the space of three months thanks to the assiduous and meticulous care I received from the above-mentioned at Rebound in Topeka. I will be forever grateful. And the sciatica is now gone. I couldn’t adequately thank the Rebound staff enough for helping me get back to normal so fast. Nonetheless, thank you all.” – Drew D.
