Can Physical Therapy Relieve Fibromyalgia Symptoms?

May14th 2024

I know there are a lot of people out there with chronic pain issues, including fibromyalgia, and sometimes I feel like this population doesn’t have an outlet or doesn’t know where to go. I am Toni Drinkard, a physical therapist here at Rebound Physical Therapy in Topeka, Kansas. And I just want to reach out and say, we treat fibromyalgia. We treat chronic pain and treat it seriously, and we listen to you because your individual signs and symptoms may be a little bit different than the next person.

How We Address Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain

When you’re dealing with chronic pain and fibromyalgia, we want to get to the root cause of it and look at all the other systems that contribute to it. And then we’ll teach you how to stabilize your core. Because when you’re looking at chronic pain, if you don’t have a good core foundation, then it becomes very spread out and hard to track.

That’s usually our starting point, whether that’s in the water with aquatic therapy or on land, we’ll teach you just how to down-regulate and do deep breathing training to control and manage the pain as best we can. Then we’ll work on those other things such as strength to then help you better move and go through your daily activities.

Call Rebound for an Evaluation

If you have any questions about chronic pain or fibromyalgia specifically, please reach out to us at Rebound Physical Therapy. Give us a call at (785) 271-5533 and we’ll help you get back in action.
