Walk Your Way to Better Health

May30th 2022

Did you know that walking is one of the best things that we can do for our body? Although it seems simple, taking a walk every day provides a ton of health benefits.

  • Daily walks help prevent heart disease.
  • For those with osteoporosis, walking can stop the loss of bone mass.
  • Walking builds stronger bone density in the hips.
  • A brisk 30-minute walk burns about 200 calories. Over time, those walks can lead to weight loss.
  • Walking releases natural pain-killing endorphins in the body. It’s one of the reasons you feel so good when your walk is finished!
  • It helps your body relax.
  • New research indicates that walking may slow down mental decline.
  • New research also indicates that walking may help prevent Alzheimer’s.

How to Start Walking Every Day

If you are ready to start enjoying some of the health benefits above, start off slow. Walk 10 minutes a day, and slowly increase your time until you’re walking 30 minutes a day.

If 30 minutes feels like too much, try breaking it up. Walk 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the evening.

Get a good pair of walking shoes, find a safe place to walk, and I suggest you enlist a friend or a buddy to walk with you. I promise it will be more enjoyable if you have good company!
