How Physical Therapy Can Treat Tendonitis

Jun10th 2024

Tendonitis is a common condition that can cause pain and limit your functional movement. I am Toni Drinkard, a physical therapist here at Rebound Physical Therapy in Topeka, Kansas. And today, we’re going to talk about how physical therapy can help treat tendonitis.

What Is Tendonitis?

Tendonitis is inflammation of a tendon (the thick tissue that connects muscles to bones). You can have tendonitis throughout any tendon. The most common types you might’ve heard of include shoulder tendonitis, Achilles tendonitis, and plantar fasciitis in the arch of your foot. We treat it all here at Rebound Physical Therapy.

How Our Physical Therapists Treat Tendonitis

Some of the main components and tools that we use to treat that is a hands-on approach. Sometimes when you go to other places, it’s just a bunch of exercises. These can be beneficial, but when you add the tissue work that we offer here at Rebound, it really takes you to the next level of care.

Here, we’re really hands-on. You’ll get a lot of soft tissue work as well as eccentric training and functional training. We always want to make sure that we’re training and strengthening in functional movement patterns that are applicable to you.

For example, if you need to go up and down stairs (which most people do), we are going to train you how to do that not only correctly, but also with less pain. We’ll work on increasing the load of the tendon in a safe manner to where you can get back to what you need to do.
